Cape Town & Surrounds

Cape Town & Surrounds

Tackle Table Mountain, paddle with penguins, relax on the beach or tour the region's famed Winelands...

After Johannesburg, Cape Town is South Africa’s second-largest city and the capital of the Western Cape. It holds a hugely significant and important role in the country’s history. The cape was originally developed by the Dutch East India Company as a supply station for Dutch ships. It has since transformed into one of the world’s most iconic tourist destinations. The city is set against the backdrop of an imposing and iconic Table Mountain and the crystal blue waters of Table Bay. From the bustling streets, markets and harbour, to the majestic grandeur of the Cape Dutch architecture, Cape Town has much to offer.

sample Itinerary - 4 days

After clearing immigration and collecting your vehicle rental, you'll make your way to your accommodation in Camps Bay, Hout Bay or the City. You'll spend your first evening in the shadow of the famous mountain with a glass of wine from the region in hand.

Day 1 - Your first day will see you enjoy breakfast at one of the city's trendy cafes, which should prepare you for either your hike or cable ride up Table Mountain. Once up the mountain, you'll probably want to explore a little and perhaps even stick around for a sunset photo. Either way, this excursion will be the focus of the day and you can round it up by enjoying a quiet family seafood dinner at one of Hout Bay's famed seaside restaurants.

Day 2 - Options for your second day could include a drive along Chapman's Peak Drive toward Fish Hoek and then Simon's Town where you'll be able to paddle with the penguins at Boulders Beach. After exploring Simon's Town and swimming at Boulders, you'll probably be in the mood for some lunch and it would be difficult to go past Live Bait in Kalk Bay. Finally, you could finish the day with some colour as you wander Muizenberg Beach and then later, Bo Kaap in the city.

Day 3 - A driving day which will see you visit Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. First stop will be Franschhoek where you will have the chance to browse the wares of the town's unique trading posts. From Franschhoek you will carry on to Stellenbosch, a visit to which would be incomplete without booking in for a wine tour at Villiera.

Day 4 - If you still have the energy, there is still so much to explore in and around Cape Town. You could use your last day to relax on the beach at Llandudno, or you might prefer a visit to Cape Point, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront or Robben Island. You see, four days might not actually be enough...
